New Ham Radio Group!
I have already met a couple of members who are also into amateur radio. I am not surprised since us techie types tend to have similar hobbies!
Come join us! (Well actually it should be, "Come join me!" since I am the only member... so far!

If your license is still good, plug it in!

Freakin sweet. Been ages since I've been involved, but the hobby is one I do wish to pick back up at some point. Thanks for the link
Sadly I'd let my license lapse and lack of hardware has left me sluggish to retest.

How long ago did your license expire? There is a 2 year grace period in which you can just renew with no tests at the same class. If it has been more than 2 years, then you will have to start from scratch! The good news (although some don't see it that way) is that there are now only 3 license classes; Technician, General and Extra and there are no more Morse code tests at all. So that means you only need to take three multiple-guess tests to go from zero to Extra.
And there are bunches of sites where you can take practice tests from the actual test pool. C'mon... its gonna be a long cold winter. What else were you planning on doing???

The technician test isn't hard these days. No code required. I teach technician classes and in the last class, a 16 yr old and 9 year old passed the exam.

The General test isn't any harder than the Tech -just more questions. No code to worry about now.
I wonder if there will be any way to run a packet modem through a chrome netbook? That's asking for an awful lot I suppose! It's been years since I've had my KPC-3 running and on the 2M packet network. One of these days I need to run a feedline up to the roof and hook up some sort of HF antenna to get back on PSK-31 too. It's been too long.

Ahhh.... the memories! I also had a KPC-3 and a KAM+ back in the day. That was when getting an email meant the message light was flashing on the TNC!
