It really is great of Google to put out such generosity (and of course get something in return). I'm really happy to be a part of this testing phase and look forward to what they can accomplish in the future. How much of a spit in the face is it to get it then immediately load a different OS?! How can we have progress if people just abuse the system? Still, it happens and I plan on taking every opportunity to send feedback to Google. Let's make sure Chrome OS is a success. They can't do it without us!
It's largely a philosophical difference..but I can see both sides on the reasons and justifications for doing it (hacking another OS on the hardware). Still, what annoys me is the public lambasting Google gets for not 'trialing' or beta-testing things (Buzz, Android in the G1 days, etc.) in 'public betas', and when they do, it gets circumvented and results either murkied or made invalid. (It reminds me of why I sometimes distrust statistics..proof can be arranged and results manufactured by design: intentional poor design, or ignorance of significant parameters, think political 'field polls'.) As a beta-tester for nearly a few decades now, I still want to provide the host with the feedback they seek...I see that as my primary responsibility when I receive the hardware/software. Once the test goes 'gold', it's mine to do with a I please.
Spoken like a true-hearted tester, alpha. I take the same approach to my DirecTV testing.
Sorta ironic...Google doesn't want our combined quarter-century plus beta testing experience! I guess they want us in 'air traffic control' rather than the 'pilot program' !! LOL!
