I mean sure, it boots fast but by the time I would make the selection in the bootloader and boot chromeOS I would be able to get into my linux distro and online in the same amount of time. I can only see this as being a netbook OS or if the cloud ever manages to become the norm, a more common OS.
Not if it always booted CrOS. The next to the "sign out" it gave the option to boot ___ OS. That would kick buttowski

Ok, gotta agree with you there. That would be sweet. Wonder how hard it would be to work that in....I'll see if I can tinker with the idea

iirc that's how the android/windows dual boot acers are. It always boots Android, but if you need to use Windows you can reboot into it. So it shouldn't be that hard.

At first I thought the idea to dual boot Chrome OS with Windows wouldn't make sense as the two OS's are so diametrically opposed to each other. With Windows you have full control over everything on the laptop, while with Chrome the laptop is more of just an interface to the internet. Then, I started thinking about why would I want the ability to dual boot between the two, and it does make some sense. It makes sense in the fact that I may want to have the power of the full computer experience for those activities that need the full computer experience (developing content that still does not work well in the cloud). Other times, I may want to be able to quickly bring up the computer, browse the web, read/write some emails, and then get out quickly.
I also think there is some merit if the decision of what OS to load is dependent on the user that is logging on to the laptop - kind of a permanent guest capability that would go straight to the Chrome OS.
The big problem with all of this is the 'other' OS though. If the other OS takes forever to boot (or feels like it takes forever), then people may never leave the other OS so there wouldn't be much dual booting happening. I know that it has taken me a good week with the CR-48 to get to the point where I am logging out/turning the laptop off versus just closing the top. I am so used to NEVER wanting to have to reboot the computer that my laptop at work can go weeks between reboots. With the CR-48 I don't have any worries about shutting down because it reboots so quickly - I actually think the network comes up quicker on a reboot than just opening the lid...

Quick Start operating system has been installed on some laptops and motherboards like ASUS Express Gate. ASUS is the only company I know that this is correct but in the past have tried a lot too. Bit again occur fad.if the clouds had managed to become the norm, a more common operating system.
