    Touchpad stopped working

A few days ago my CR-48's touchpad stopped responding to all touch and click so now I can only use a USB mouse with my notebook. I reported the issue to Google but haven't heard back yet. Anyone have suggestions to get it working again? Thanks.

Report it with the "Bug" or did you open a ticket with the Ninjas? Bug report might not get you an outcome.

Personally I'd try wiping/reloading. Two ways to do it, one more thorough than the other -- Pop your battery. There's a small sticker just next to the battery terminals, in the bottom of the laptop. Remove this, flip the switch underneath. Boot it up. You can shut down again as soon as the screen comes up. Flip the switch back and boot. The system will start to boot normally, then show a message about formatting the stateful partition. After a few minutes it'll boot up fresh.

If that doesn't do it, try reinstalling -- flip the switch again and boot. This time hit Space when you see the prompt about OS verification, and follow the directions here to make a thumbdrive to reinstall: Recover Chrome OS: Cr-48 : Troubleshoot common issues - Chrome OS Help

Hopefully you have a linux or OSX machine to do that.

If none of that helps, probably hardware. Here's the trouble ticket system: Contact Us - Chrome OS Help

Thanks to both of you for the help. I did contact the Chrome ninja but they haven't gotten back yet - they accepted my serial number and I have an open email chain but I submitted it on Thursday. I'm guessing they're not working on the weekends.

I don't have a Mac or linux computer so I may try flipping it to dev mode and then back as Saiboogu suggested.

Stigy's paperclip-reset link is a shortcut to get to the recovery screen I mentioned for my 2nd suggestion. Still need a recovery thumbdrive, which relies on OSX or Linux. Hopefully Google has recovery steps for Windows soon. If they would just release an ISO, something like unetbootin could do the trick.

Oh I apologize, I guess I should read. You could try, flipping the switch, when you get to the nag screen, hit ctrl+d and let it wipe your partitions, then flip the switch back and see if that fixes it. No need for a recovery img.

I just flipped to dev mode, wiped all, etc. and the trackpad still doesn't work :-\

Does that mean it's an unfixable a hardware issue?

I suggest dual-booting Ubuntu on your Windows machine, creating a "recovery stick" and trying that. You might find that your Ubuntu installation could prove to be useful in the future.

No need to dual boot: andLinux.org -- Run Linux natively inside Windows

    Can run Linux inside Windows.
